We hear how familiarity and positivity are key factors in settling in at Little Hearts Nursery, Sacred Heart School

Settling a child into nursery can be a smooth process with a few thoughtful strategies. At Little Hearts Nursery, Sacred Heart School, we recommend families attend our fortnightly Parent and Toddler sessions as a chance to familiarise your child with the nursery environment before their start date. During these visits, children will meet each other and the staff in the nursery and play with our toys, which makes the setting feel more comfortable.

Once back at home, it is important to talk about the experience in an enthusiastic and positive manner. Children often pick up on parental cues, so your confidence helps them feel more secure. We take lots of pictures of our nursery children throughout the week, so take time to look through these with your child to celebrate their new friends and activities and help create a sense of excitement about returning. Our children love to fill their trays with pictures and craft they have made, ready to share at pick-up! Your child will also be assigned a key worker, who will observe and track their progress, and feed back regularly to parents, further strengthening the links between home and school.

Patience and consistency are key, as each child adapts at their own pace.  Remember, staff are always there to guide the process, to reassure you and your child and to offer a cuddle when it is needed (both for the child and parent!)
